Our private school in London has strong values that are used as a tool to maximise the pupils’ potential and welfare.
These values are interwoven into all aspects of school life.
The school’s values support the children’s understanding of the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs, and are taught throughout the curriculum, in age-appropriate ways. Heath House staff take on the responsibility of ensuring these values are actively promoted to children, and evident in every curriculum and enrichment aspect of school life.
The School Rules are simple, and based on safety, consideration and responsibility. The School Rules are displayed on notice boards throughout the school and staff should display a copy in their classroom. The School Rules are also displayed in each child’s journal. The School Rules can be seen below.
As part of teaching the British Values and encouraging democracy, pupils elect two School Captains and two Vice Captains. This is announced in the Awards Ceremony at the end of the Summer Term. The captains are chosen from pupils in Prep Year 6. The School Captains carry out important jobs on behalf of the School. Amongst other things, they act as role models to the younger children, are encouraged to take initiative to organise charitable fundraising days and speak at school events.
The Heath House School Council is a group of elected children who discuss issues raised by their peers which helps to effect change within the school. For example, introducing new clubs or making changes to the lunch menu!
The School Council meets once a week. Two pupils are elected as Heads of School Council, who chair the meeting. Elected members from Prep Year 3 upwards discuss issues raised by their peers throughout the week.
At Heath House, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and promoting the welfare of children is of paramount importance. Class teachers support and monitor each child’s wellbeing using a holistic approach, reporting any concerns to the school’s Safeguarding Team.
The school has robust policies and procedures in place to support the safeguarding of all pupils. All staff ensure that they are aware of the policies and procedures and attend regular safeguarding training.
Children are taught, in an age appropriate manner, to have an awareness of potential dangers that they may face, including whilst online. In addition to this children are encouraged to develop trusting relationships with their teachers which allows for open communication about any worries or concerns the child may have.
